Final Stats

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Miami University field hockey team dropped a competitive game with Ohio State Wednesday, 3-1. Katie Brightwell scored for the RedHawks, who fall to 9-5 overall. The Buckeyes are 10-6.

"I felt like our team played real well in the first half," said head coach Jill Reeve. "We responded well after Ohio State scored with a goal of our own. We were really in the game the first half. Second half I felt like half of our team was in the game and half was not, and that is why the scored ended up the way it did."

Ohio State got on the board first at the four-minute mark of the first half, when Aisling Coyle scored from the top left corner. The RedHawks answered six minutes later when Brightwell was able to take the rebound of her own blocked shot, and beat the Buckeyes goalie in the lower left corner of the goal. Ohio State scored the game-winning goal at the 17-minute mark when Coyle converted a penalty corner.

"Katie Brightwell has been a truly consistent defender and leader for us on the field," said Reeve. "Her play was the major highlight of today."

The second half continued to be competitive as the Buckeyes had a narrow 6-4 lead in shots. Ohio State completed the scoring at the 43-minute mark when it converted on its second penalty corner of the game.

Ohio State outshot Miami 12-8 overall. Mary Hull led the RedHawks with three shots, all on goal. Abbey Huck made five saves in net.
