MUNCIE, Ind. – Miami University got back on the winning track Sunday with a 3-1 victory over Ball State. The RedHawks outshot the Cardinals 25-8, as they improved to 9-4-0 overall and 4-2 in the Mid-American Conference. Ball State is 1-12 overall and 0-5.

Miami struck first when Courtney Fretz recorded her fourth goal of the season at the 16:58 mark of the first half. The RedHawks kept up the pressure and added a second goal less than five minutes later when Christine Brightwell scored off a pass from Elizabeth Gilroy. Miami outshot the Cardinals 9-2 in the first half.

The second half continued to be played in the RedHawks offensive zone as they outshot Ball State 16-6. The pressure continued to pay off at the 53:07 mark as Mary Hull was able to put the game away with her fifth goal of the season. It was off an assist from KC Stahlhuth. With nine minutes remaining in the game, Ball State got on the board when Casey Hunsicker converted a penalty corner.

For the game, Brightwell led the team with eight shots, including four on goal. Hull had four shots, including three on goal. Abbey Huck made five saves in net.

Miami has a couple of non-conference road games this week. The RedHawks travel to Ohio State Wednesday for a 3 p.m. game, which is followed by a Friday match at Indiana, also at 3 p.m. Miami return home for a MAC conference game on Saturday, October 18 against Missouri State at Noon.
