OXFORD, Ohio - Louisville junior Desire' Miller quelled any Miami University (1-10, 0-5 Mid-American) hopes of an upset when she scored the Cardinals only goal on a penalty stroke at 26:43 in the second half. The RedHawks batted No. 11 Louisville (9-4, 4-1 MAC) through 61:43 of scoreless action before Miller put the finishing touches on the Cardinals MAC-leading fourth victory.

Sophomore goalie Kerri Orr (San Diego, Calif./Serra) single handedly kept the Red and White in the game as she stopped eight Louisville shots in the first half. Much of the first period was played on Miami's defensive side of the field as the Cardinals recorded eight penalty corners to only one for Miami. However, Orr and the RedHawk defense kept the Louisville offense at bay with stellar defense.

After the break the RedHawks made several rushes at the Louisville goal. One of those rushes almost resulted in a Miami goal when sophomore Megan Wiegand (San Diego, Calif./LaCosta Canyon) ripped a shot from the right side that sailed just inches wide of the goal.

Louisville mounted its own attack late in the second half that would result in the game-winning penalty stroke. Junior Olivia Netzler centered a pass from the left side that got lost in the RedHawk defense and was whistled dead when it came to rest under Orr and a RedHawk defender. Miller took advantage of the stroke by placing her shot in the upper corner of the net away from the anticipating Orr.

The Cardinals almost had a 2-0 lead when sophomore Suzanne Irwin chipped a shot from the far right that rattled off both posts and back into the field of play. Miami managed one more rush when they added an extra forward, at the cost of a back, and surged down the field only to be thwarted by the Louisville defense.

Orr, who finished the contest with 15 saves, tied her career high for stops and moved herself into a tie for fourth nationally in saves with 101. The Cardinals dominated the Red and White in penalty corners 14-1, and shots 26-3. Louisville's junior goalie Christy Hershey needed no saves as she recorded her 3.5 shutout of the season.

The RedHawks continue their homestand when they host the Saint Louis Billikens this Sunday, Oct. 13, at noon on the Miami Turf Field.
