EAST LANSING, Mich. - The Miami University (2-11, 0-5 Mid-American Conference) field hockey team dropped its 11th straight game this afternoon, 4-0, at No. 7 Michigan State. The Spartans rallied behind three second half goals to improve their record to 10-4 overall on the season.

Junior Julia Adams notched the game's first goal on a penalty stroke with 2:59 remaining in the first period. It was only the second time this season that a Miami opponent has successfully converted a penatly stroke in four opportunities.

MSU put the pressure on the RedHawks in the second stanza, scoring two goals eight minutes into the period and tallying another with 17:47 left in the game. Sophomore Theresa Pusateri scored her second goal of the season at the 32:50 mark. Five minutes later, freshman Judith van Haeringen fired a shot into the net on a pass from junior Cynthia Martin off a broke pnealty corner attempt for the Spartans third goal of the contest.

Senior Maureen Halstead tallied her 10th goal of the season at 17:47 to give the Spartans a 4-1 victory. MSU outshot the RedHawks 16-3 and held a 18-1 advantage in penalty corners.

Miami's goalkeeper, senior Marie Vaughn (Davis, Calif./Davis), did all she could against a strong MSU attack making seven saves in the RedHawks 11th setback of the season. Also, senior Karen Preikszas (Medfield, Mass./Medfield) recorded her team-leading fifth defensive save in the contest.

The RedHawks return home to the friendly confines of the Miami Turf Field for conference action against Ball State on Friday, Oct. 12 at 3 p.m. and Central Michigan on Saturday, Oct. 13 at 5:30 p.m.
