LOUISVILLE, Ky. - This afternoon at Trager Stadium the Miami University (2-10, 0-5 Mid-American Conference) field hockey team dropped a tough game on the road to No. 9 Louisville (9-2, 4-1 MAC), 7-0. The Cardinals gained their ninth victory of the season byway of a five-goal second half.

The RedHawks didn't allow Louisville to score until 24:06 had expired when junior Jen Welgosh beat the defense for her second goal of the year. The Cardinals extended their lead a minute later when junior Pip Sanders found her classmate, Susan Sattazahn, open on the left wing for an easy shot. Sattazahn's goal was her fourth of the season and put Louisville on top, 2-0.

Miami goalkeeper, senior Marie Vaughn (Davis, Calif./Davis), locked down the Louisville offense for the remaining 10 minutes of the period to keep the RedHawks close, 2-0. Vaughn registered seven saves in the stanza and ten overall.

Louisville opened up the floodgates in the second stanza when freshman Olivia Netzler netted two goals in the first five minutes of the period. Netzler's two goals were her 10th and 11th of the season, tops in the MAC. Just 50-seconds after building a 4-0 advantage, sophomore Elisa Eshelman tallied her fourth goal of the season to give Louisville a 5-0 lead.

Sanders and Sattazahn scored two more goals for the Cardinals before the final whistle to give Louisville the 7-0 victory. Miami was outshot 24-1 and took zero penalty corner's to Louisville's 14.

"We need to keep trying to pull things together and work for the second half of the conference schedule," says coach Lil Fesperman. "Playing well right now is great but what we really need to do is get a victory."

Louisville improves to 9-2 overall and 4-1 in the MAC while Miami is now 2-10 overall and 0-5 in league action. The RedHawks next action will be this Sunday, Oct. 7, at 1 p.m. against No. 7 Michigan State in East Lansing, Mich.
