Final Stats

Jill Reeve, Miami head coach:

On Pacific’s improved play in the second half to force overtime:
“They felt like they needed to make their own luck and they did. The two goals that they scored, they really created something out of nothing and went after it.”

On the pace and feel of the game:
“We were basically sparing the whole game and never got into the fight until the overtime and then we decided that we wanted to play. I am happy about the result, but our team is disappointed because we have a lot more to offer.”

On what Miami can take from this game:
“It is the moments that you are not at your best that you can keep tweaking things until you find the right combination. That was the case today. We had some players that came out to play, but the combination, as a whole, was just not there.”

On how the RedHawks responded in overtime:
“In overtime, they know what to do. They have a plan and a plot and they executed. I was really happy with that.”

On Megan Stengal’s play in cage:
“She did a really nice job. The two goals that Pacific developed were good goals. I was really happy with her performance. She has been working hard and it was good to see her in the cage today.”

Megan Stengal, Miami senior goalkeeper:

On the game overall:
“There were a lot of great moments out there. There were a couple of times that it fell through and they punched some in. It was a little bit of a weird game. We wanted to come out a little more on top than in overtime. For me, I worked really hard to get out there. I try to do as much as I can and I think I did pretty well.”

On being in goal when there are lulls in the action:
“It is hard to get a couple shots and then stand for a few minutes. You have to keep yourself in it and follow the ball so that you are still moving. If you don’t move, you can get caught on your heels. It is hard, depending on how long the lull is going to be. “

On being one of three capable Miami goalkeepers:
“Most of the time it is really good because you learn from each other. It is good competition. You are always trying to out-do each other. All three of us are really good. We balance each other out and help each other. It is hard on game days when two are on the side and one is on. We try to give each other support and be good teammates to each other and support whoever is on the field.”

Looking ahead to Mid-American Conference Play:
“We are really excited because we were voted second in the polls. We are happy to be near the top and we want to prove to them that we are supposed to be up there and we are supposed to be number-one in the conference. We want to come out of this game and show the other schools what we have got.”

Elizabeth Gilroy, Miami senior midfielder:

On her game-winning goal in overtime:
“There was a lot more room in the circle because they can only defend with four. Katie Brightwell passed me the ball and made a nice lane wide open for me. I saw the shot and just took it. It is pretty exciting.” “It happened so fast that I can barely remember what happened. It was pretty much just instinct.”

On heading into MAC play:
“I am really excited. I think we are ready. It is good to have an overtime under our belt and especially a win in overtime. We are prepared and feel really good about it. I am excited.”
