Miami freshman goalkeeper Abbey Huck

On getting the call to start her first college game:
“I was really excited, but kind of nervous. I wasn’t scared or anything because I trust the girls wholeheartedly. As a team we knew we could do it no matter who was in cage. But, I was really nervous. Starting out with a shutout is nice.”

On if her first college game is what she expected it would be:
"As soon as you get in the game, the nerves start, the energy gets up, and the shots become that much harder."

Miami senior back Danielle Gaynor

On her first-half goal:
"I saw players coming so I tried to hit it across to a tipper but it ended up going far-post, in the goal."

On Miami’s overall performance:
"We did really well. Davidson is a pretty good team. In the second half, they applied a lot of pressure. Our freshman really stepped up and our press worked really well. We got to pick up a lot of balls and that really sprung our offense."

On having Mary Hull back in the lineup:
"Having Mary (Hull) back is great. She is incredibly fast. It is always good to have someone up there that can make those long runs."

Miami head coach Jill Reeve

On Miami’s overall performance:
“I was really pleased with our performance. I think our team played a great style of hockey. They executed the game plan very well.”

On the decision to start freshman Abbey Huck at the goalkeeper position:
“She has been playing consistently. It was a really hard decision. We came to it as a staff. The other two are very close behind. It is an ongoing race. But, I think Abbey did a nice job today.”

On Huck’s overall performance in her first game:
“She handled a lot of balls that were a little bit junky in front. There were tough shots that were hard to manage as a goalkeeper. I thought she did a nice job there. She got a shutout in her first experience and I think that is tremendous. She communicated well today, but that is something that she is still working on.”

On having Mary Hull back in the lineup after missing nearly all of last season with an injury:
“She is a franchise player. I love to have her on the field. She is still battling back from a quad pull that happened early in the preseason. “

On the challenges that Davidson presented the RedHawks:
“Davidson did a really nice job in the second half of really pressurizing us and testing us. It took us a while to adjust. “

On what she is looking for from her team tomorrow:
“I am looking for us tomorrow to have the same type of performance back-to-back. I think that is a really difficult thing to do. In the first game, you are spending a lot of energy on nerves and those kinds of things. Tomorrow is going to be an interesting match. What is terrific is that we have a lot of depth. So, if someone is a little bit low on gas, we can go to our bench.”
