Assistant coach Katie Kanara enters her first season at Miami after one season at Saint Louis University, during which she was named interim head coach midway through the season.

"I am really excited to have Katie joining our staff," says Reeve. "She brings a combination of youth and experience that has had a positive impact on our program already. Her expertise in the goalkeeping arena will fill a necessary need as we prepare two very young goalkeepers for the cage in next year's lineup."

Kanara's stint at Saint Louis was her first college coaching position after a playing career that saw her spend one season at Old Dominion, Reeve's alma mater, followed by three seasons at Indiana University.

Prior to inheriting the head coaching duties at SLU, she served as the team's goalkeeping coach and coordinated the team's defensive strategy. Under Kanara's watch at Saint Louis, seven student-athletes earned postseason honors, including goalkeeper Amy Wasserman, who earned first-team all-conference accolades. In addition, 11 Billikens were named to the National Field Hockey Coaches Association All-Academic Squad.

After transferring to Indiana following the 2000 season, Kanara went on to set school records for victories and goals-against average. Her 14 career victories in the cage include a 12-win senior campaign that saw her post a 1.75 GAA and earn Big Ten All-Tournament Team honors. Kanara earned a spot on teh NFCHCA All-Academic Team on three occasions and was a three-time recipient of the Big Ten's Scholar-Athlete Award.

Kanara's collegiate playing career began in 2000 at Old Dominion University as the Lady Monarchs were crowned with a national championship under former United States National Team coach Beth Anders.

A native of Kennet Square, Pa., Kanara earned her bachelor's degree in therapeutic recreation from Indiana in 2004 before completing her master's in the same field at IU in 2005.
