OXFORD, Ohio - The Miami Dance Team returned to Oxford from the National Dance Alliance (NDA) summer camp with a full paid bid to the 2009 NDA National Competition. The 3 day camp took place in Louisville, KY at the University of Louisville. Ten college dance teams participated and competed from Aug. 2 through Aug. 4 to earn a partial or full paid bid. Miami was one of only 2 Division 1A teams to earn a full bid. The Ohio State University took home the second.

Paid bids are awarded to the dance teams that earn the most points at camp. Points are awarded to teams that place in the team dance competition and receive the Most Spirited, the Most Collegiate or the Best All Around award. Miami placed 2nd in the team dance competition beating out Purdue University and Marshall. The team dance routine consists of jazz, pom and hip hop dance styles and is learned at camp and performed on the last day. Miami was also named the Best All Around squad - an award voted on by the dance teams that attend the camp. In addition to team awards, junior and Captain Valarie Gascon and junior Laura Siedlecki were named NDA All-American Dancers.

The full paid bid is an estimated $15,000 award that Miami will use to help offset the travel and registration expenses involved with competing in the national competition in Dayton Beach, FL in April. This is the 5th full paid bid Miami has received throughout its 5 years of competing at the national level.
