COLUMBUS, Ohio - The Miami Dance Team headed to Columbus on Sunday to compete in the COA Mid-West Open Collegiate Dance Competition. The dance team attended the competition in preparation for this April's NDA Collegiate National Championship in Daytona Beach, Florida.

Miami was extremely pleased with their 1st place trophy in the Division IA Collegiate Dance Division. The judges' feedback was also beneficial in preparation for Nationals as the dancers continue to perfect their routine for Nationals.

The team viewed this performance as an opportunity to gain valuable competitive experience prior to Nationals. The environment at a competition is very different from the team's performances at home basketball games, with a judging panel, other competing teams, and only one chance to make an impression on the audience.

The dance team will attend one more competition on March 6th, the US Spirit "Arnold Classic," before heading to Daytona Beach to compete against some of the best dance teams in the Nation. According to Sunday's results, the Miami Dance Team is on the right track toward placing well on the national level. The dance team is currently ranked 5th in the nation in Division IA as they head to Nationals, based on December's video entries.

The Miami Dance Team is the official dance team of Miami University Athletics and can be seen performing at all home men's and women's basketball games. The team performs and competes in styles including jazz, pom, and hip-hop with a strong emphasis on technical skills such as turns, leaps, and jumps.
