Miami Drains 10 Three-Point Goals; Shoots Past Central Michigan, 85-57





OXFORD, Ohio (Jan. 13) - Miami University's women's basketball team broke out of its recent three-pointing shooting slump and defeated Central Michigan, 85-57, Saturday afternoon in Millett Hall.

Entering the game, Miami was shooting a dismal 19 percent from three-point land in three conference matchups. However, the RedHawks drilled a season-high-tying 10 three-pointers in the game, including seven in the first half.

Following a 12-2 run midway through the first half, Miami raced to a 29-12 lead. The spurt was capped off by two consecutive three-point field goals by Melanie Kozlowski.

The RedHawks went to the locker room with a 47-33 advantage. For the half, Miami shot an astounding 64 percent from the field, including 7-of-8 from behind the arc.

In the second half, the RedHawks stretched their lead to as many as 30 points (83-53) with 2:47 remaining and cruised to their second straight Mid-American Conference victory.

For the game, Miami shot 54 percent from the field and 79 percent from the free throw line. Central Michigan (2-12, 0-4) was held to just 36 percent shooting overall, 25 percent from three-point land.

Beth Roederer poured in a career-high 18 points, including four three-pointers, and Kim Lancaster added 18 markers on 8-of-11 shooting. Kozlowski tallied 11 points, while Heather Cusick dished out eight assists.

Beth Kindel was the lone Chippewa in double figures as she hit for 11 points.

Miami (8-6, 2-2) is back in action on Wednesday, Jan. 17, as it travels to Kent State University in hopes of breaking its 37-game home win streak. Tipoff is slated for 7 p.m.

Game Notes: Roederer finished the game with three assists, giving her at least one assist in every game this year ... for only the second time this year, Miami outrebounded its opponent. The RedHawks finished with 38 rebounds, compared to Central Michigan's 29 ... Cusick extended her streak of consecutive games with at least one steal to 23. Cusick finished the game with one steal ... Miami continued its hot free throw shooting, ending the game making 15-of-19 (79 percent). In its past three games, the Red and White is shooting 82 percent from the line.
