The Finish:
Miami finished the season with an 11-15 overall record and a 7-9 MAC mark. The RedHawks ended up in a tie for eighth place, the final playoff spot, with Central Michigan and Northern Illinois, but lost the tie-breaker against the two teams.
Redhawk Wrap-Up:
The RedHawks ended the season with an 81-57 domination of Ohio. Miami jumped out to a 32-26 lead going into halftime and outscored the Bobcats 49-31 in the second half to secure the win. Seniors Cori Shade and Becky Alexander finished out their Miami careers with personal bests. Shade's four three pointers and six rebounds were career bests, while Alexander's 14 points was a personal best.
Three-Point Record:
Nailing 16-of-29 three pointers for a .552 shooting percentage, the RedHawks bettered both the Miami men's and women's single-game total, tied the MAC single-game record and tied the second-best three-point field goal total in the nation this season. Cori Shade, Becky Alexander, Hollie Nelsen and Jamie Stewart accounted for all 16 of Miami's three pointers, downing four treys each.
Hamilton On All-MAC Team:
AuBree Hamilton was named to the all-MAC second team. She was the only RedHawk to earn all-MAC recognition. Hamilton led the conference in blocked shots, offensive rebounds, defensive rebounds and overall rebounds.
Strong Finish:
Miami ended the 1998-99 campaign the way they started the conference season, with a three-game winning streak. The RedHawks posted wins over Ball State, Northern Illinois and Ohio to open MAC play. With triumphs over Ball State and Central Michigan and Ohio, Miami finished out the season on a positive note.
Hamilton: Miami's Diva Of Defense:
AuBree Hamilton has been a defensive powerhouse for the RedHawks this season. Not only did she lead Miami and the Mid-American Conference in blocked shots, overall rebounds, offensive rebounds and defensive rebounds, she ranked fourth in the nation in the last NCAA polls in rebounds.
Hamilton Ties 13 Year Old Record:
AuBree Hamilton terminated the opposition's shots all season long. This season, Hamilton tied the school's single-season record of 46 set by Amy Franz (1985-86). She also has tied the Miami single-game record of five blocks twice in her career: this season against Kentucky and last year versus Toledo. Her 36 blocks last season ranks fifth on the single-season chart, and her career blocked shot total of 82 also ranks fifth at Miami.
Hamilton Is The Queen Of Boards:
Pulling down a game-best 15 rebounds in Miami's 82-78 win over Central Michigan, AuBree Hamilton broke the Miami single-season rebounding record. Hamilton finished out the season with 285 boards, eclipsing Monica Niemann's 1992-93 record of 261. With 541 career rebounds, Hamilton also climbed to the ninth-place spot on the Miami career rebounding chart.
On The Record:
AuBree Hamilton's single-season rebounding record came in four fewer games than Monica Niemann's, whose 1992-93 squad advanced to the MAC Tournament semifinal game. Hamilton sat out two games in January due to back problems, and saw limited action in several other contests. Hamilton averaged four fewer minutes per game than Niemann did during her record-setting season.
One More For The Record:
AuBree Hamilton averaged more rebounds per game in a season than anyone in the history of the program. Hamilton averaged 11.9 per game. Mary Kay Reeves owned the previous top average of 10.5 boards per game during the 1976-77 campaign.
Stewart Is Movin' On Up:
Jamie Stewart claimed the No. 2 career three-point field goal total with 140. She also jumped to third on the single-season chart with 60 this season. Stewart claimed the No. 4 total last season, nailing 57 shots from behind the three-point arc.
Hamilton Banging The Boards:
After limited action during the month of January due to a strained back, AuBree Hamilton is back banging the boards. Hamilton pulled down 16 rebounds at Kent, the 10th-best single-game total at Miami. This season, Hamilton has placed her name on the single-game chart four times. Her 20 against Hampton ranks second, while the 17 she collected against Wright State and Ohio ranked eighth. She also tallied 17 last season at Ball State.
Miami's Triple Threat:
The trio of Jamie Stewart, Hollie Nelsen and Becky Alexander pack a powerful punch from behind the three-point arc. The threesome combined to score over 83 percent of Miami's three-point field goals. The RedHawks rank third in the conference in made three-point shots, averaging 5.64 per game. Stewart, who nailed 60 treys this season to rank third on the Miami single-season chart, ranked third in the MAC in made three-pointers and fifth in three-point shooting percentage (.375). Stewart is second at Miami in career made three pointers (140). Nelsen amassed 44 treys this season to rank 10th on the Miami single-season list. Nelsen ranked eighth in the MAC in made three-point shots and in three-point shooting percentage (.344). Alexander hit 26 treys, including four against Bowling Green and Ohio.
Walking The Walk:
All four of Miami's walk-ons played vital support roles this season. At Marshall, all three who were sent to the free throw line were perfect, nailing a combined 8-of-8 of Miami's 14-of-17 free throws. Kelly Link, who earned starting duties at Eastern Michigan in place of the injured AuBree Hamilton, was 4-for-4, while Allison Swank and Marjon Jackson each went 2-for-2. The trio also snagged four of Miami's 14 steals with Swank getting her hands on two of those. Karie Henderson earned starting duties against Marshall and Bowling Green. She pulled down a team-high and season-best seven boards in 27 minutes of play against the Thundering Herd while scoring four points. She grabbed five rebounds against the Falcons also in 27 minutes.
Double Trouble:
AuBree Hamilton recorded 10 double-doubles this season, while Hollie Nelsen earned a double-double in the RedHawks' first game. Hamilton amassed 23 points and 20 rebounds against Hampton, a career-high for rebounds. Her 20 rebounds are the second-best single-game total on the Miami charts. She also tallied 14 points and 10 rebounds against Pittsburgh. Against Ball State, Hamilton amassed a career-high 28 points and 15rebounds. At Wright State, she scored 22 points and pulled down 17 rebounds. Against Northern Illinois, she had a 10-point, 13-rebound performance and amassed 14 points and 17 rebounds against Ohio. Hamilton pulled down 15 boards and scored 15 points against Western Michigan and then scored 10 points and collected 13 boards at Buffalo. Most recently, Hamilton collected 16 points and 15 rebounds against Ball State and had a 22-point, 15-rebound performance against Central Michigan. Nelsen collected 19 points and a career-high 12 boards versus Hampton.
Miami And McDonalds Team-Up To Help big Brothers And Big Sisters:
Miami and McDonalds of Oxford are teaming up to help the Butler County Big Brothers and Big Sisters organization. For every three-point basket scored by the Miami men's and women's basketball teams, McDonalds of Oxford donated $10 to Big Brothers/Big Sisters. The women's team did their fair share, nailing 157 of Miami's combined 319 treys.
Stand And Deliver:
Jamie Stewart led the team in made free throws, nailing 79-of-97 for an .814 free throw percentage. At this point in her career, Stewart has hit 186-of-230 free throws. Her .807 career free throw percentage ranks her second on the Miami career free throw percentage chart. The top career free throw percentage is .835 held by Julie Howell (1988-92).
National Spotlight:
In the Mar. 1 NCAA rankings, AuBree Hamilton ranked fourth in the nation in rebounding, averaging 11.9 boards per game.
MAC Chart Toppers:
AuBree Hamilton led the conference in rebounding (11.9), blocked shots (1.92), defensive rebounds (7.88) and offensive rebounds (4.00). Hamilton also ranked fourth in field goal percentage (.552). Jamie Stewart ranked 14th on the conference scoring chart, averaging 14.3 points per game. Stewart also ranked third in made three-point field goals (2.31), fifth in free throw percentage (.814) and in three-point field goal percentage (.375), 14th in assist/turnover ratio (0.98) and assists (3.38). Hollie Nelsen ranked eighth in made three-point field goals (1.83) and three-point shooting percentage (.344), 13th in steals (1.71) and 14th in blocked shots (0.54). Lindsay Winkler was 15th in offensive rebounds (2.31).
Hamilton In The Record Books:
AuBree Hamilton was 13-of-15 from the field in Miami's game against Ball State. This places her in a tie for second place on the Miami all-time list in field goals made in a game, a position shared with Miami head coach Maria Fantanarosa. The current record is 14 field goals, established by Mary Kay Reeves on January 14, 1976. Hamilton set a new career high of 28 points, scoring 23 in the second half. In addition to shooting .867, Hamilton grabbed 15 rebounds.
Miami Sets Tournament Record:
The RedHawks drilled 11 three-point shots in their game against George Mason at the Colorado Coors Classic to set a new tournament record for made three-point shots in a game. Hollie Nelsen nailed four from behind the three-point arc, while Jamie Stewart and Valerie Jones each amassed three. Becky Alexander hit Miami's other three-point field goal.
Triple Bomber:
Hollie Nelsen unleashed seven three-point bombs, the second highest single-game total at Miami, to collect 21 of her career-high 26 points against Dayton. Six of Nelsen's three-point shots came in the first half to help Miami break out to a 40-21 lead at the half.
