INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (Dec. 21) - Jenny Martin scored a season-high 23 points and Heather Cusick added 20 markers as Miami University's women's basketball team upended Butler, 83-68, on Thursday (Dec. 21) in Hinkle Fieldhouse.
In the first half, both teams started off slow. However, things turned around and the RedHawks gained a 44-35 halftime advantage as Cusick drained the final seven points of the half. Cusick finished the half with 13 points, while Martin tallied 12 points.
Miami shot a blazing 63 percent from the field, which included 6-of-9 from three-point range, and 86 percent from the free throw line in the first half. Butler ended the first 20 minutes shooting 54 percent from the field and 83 percent from the line.
In the second half, Miami opened a 17-point lead and held off the Bulldogs to seal its second straight win of the year.
For the game, Miami shot 54 percent from the field, while holding the Bulldogs to 44 percent.
Martin's 23 points were a game-high, which included a perfect 9-of-9 from the foul line. Cusick pitched in six assists and six steals to go along with her 20 points. Kelli Stamper and Beth Roederer each hit for 11 points apiece.
Kelly Kuhn led Butler with 19 points and 14 boards.
Miami (5-4) is back in action on New Year's Eve as it hosts Valparaiso.
Tip-off is set for 2 p.m.
