DETROIT, Mich. (Dec. 6) -- Miami University's women's basketball team could not overcome a 25-point halftime deficit in a 99-76 loss to the University of Detroit Wednesday (Dec. 6) night at Calihan Hall.
Detroit guards Michelle James and Shari Hill paced the Titans (4-2) with 21 and 18 points, respectively. Sara Crum added 13 points off the bench for Detroit.
Freshman center Kim Lancaster (Sharonville, Ohio/Princeton) led four Miami double-digit scorers with 17 points. Lancaster also led the RedHawks (3-4) with 11 rebounds.
Sophomore forward Kelli Stamper (Frankfort, Ky./Lexington Catholic) added 13 points and junior guard Jenny Martin (Greenwood, Ind./Center Grove) put in 12 of her own.
Freshman guard Melanie Kozlowski (Parma, Ohio/Holy Name) chipped in 12 points and six rebounds, both career highs.
Detroit shot a blazing 69.7 percent (23-33) from the field, including 77.8 percent (7-9) from behind the arc, to open up a 57-32 lead at the break.
Although Miami outscored the Titans 44-42 in the second half, the RedHawks were not able to overcome Detroit's dominant first-half performance, suffering its worst setback of the campaign.
Miami will take an 11-day break for final exams before returning to its home floor on Sun., Dec. 17 versus St. Francis (PA). Tipoff is at 2 p.m.
