OXFORD, Ohio – The Miami women’s basketball team has one more game remaining before students leave for Thanksgiving break as it hosts La Salle on Tuesday at 7 p.m. at Millett Hall.

ON THE BOARDS: What will Miami do for an encore after outrebounding IPFW 58-25 on Saturday? The 58 rebounds were tied for sixth most by a RedHawk team all-time, and the most since recording 58 against Kent State on Feb. 3, 1993. All 11 RedHawks who played grabbed at least one rebound, with Jaclyn Leininger leading the way with 10 boards.

STAY HEALTHY: Nagging injuries have affected several of the guards this season as Briana Dunlap, Maggie Boyer and Michelle Oswalt have all had to miss time during the early portion of the season. While none of the injuries are major, they have forced head coach Maria Fantanarosa to be creative with her guard rotation. Ashleigh Brown can slide over and play guard when necessary, while Leininger can be a forward/wing hybrid. Jenna Schone, Courtney Reed and Ashley Hawkins have done a strong job stabalizing the guard rotation. Schone and Reed are the team’s top two scorers at 14.5 and 14.0 points per game, respectively, while Hawkins has come off the bench to be the RedHawk’s leading assist man at 4.5 per game.

LAST WEEK: The RedHawks went 1-0 last week, defeating IPFW 73-57. It was the 15th time in the past 17 years that Miami won its home opener. Jenna Schone (Pickerington, Ohio) led the way with 21 points. The team recorded 58 rebounds to the Mastodons 25. It was the sixth-most rebounds Miami has had in a game all-time, and the most rebounds in a game in over 15 years. The RedHawks also had 24 offensive rebounds, with Jaclyn Leininger (Winona Lake, Ind.), Ashleigh Brown (Delaware, Ohio) and Courtney Reed (Andrews, Ind.) with four each. Miami shot .397 for the game, but held IPFW to only .333 shooting, a significant improvement after allowing Eastern Illinois to shoot .535 in the season opener. The RedHawks will be looking to improve on distributing the ball after recording only eight assists on 25 baskets against the Mastodons.

ABOUT LA SALLE: La Salle is 3-1 on the season. Last weekend, it fell to Delaware 71-57 on Wednesday, before coming back with a 48-46 win over Drexel on Saturday. The 48 points scored against the Dragons was the first time they were held under 50 since 1974. The Explorers are led by junior foward Morgan Robertson, who averages a team-leading 12.3 points and 6.8 rebounds per game. Other top players include guards Margaret Elderton (10.8 ppg) and Jamie Walsh (10.0 ppg).

SERIES HISTORY: This is the third meeting all-time between the RedHawks and the Explorers. La Salle won the first two, a 77-65 victory in 1986 and a 64-60 win in 2006. In the game two years ago, Miami held a three-point lead with 1:41 to go, but the Explorers were able to take it by closing on a 7-0 run. Jenna Schone led the RedHawks with 16 points.

MIAMI VS. ATLANTIC 10: The RedHawks are a 27-26 all-time against the current 14 members of the Atlantic 10 conference. That numbers is a bit misleading as 44 of those 53 games have come against Dayton (12-15 all-time) and Xavier (10-7 all-time). Miami is 0-2 against La Salle, 3-1 against Saint Louis, 1-1 against Temple and 1-0 against Rhode Island. Miami has never faced Charlotte, Duquesne, Fordham, George Washington, Massachusetts, Richmond, Saint Joesph’s or St. Bonaventure.

UP NEXT FOR REDHAWKS: Miami concludes its Thanksgiving week with a trip to Wake Forest to face the Demon Deacons on Saturday at noon. The RedHawks will make the short trip to Wright State next Tuesday for a 7 p.m. game, before traveling to Colorado Springs, Colo. and the United States Air Force Academy to participate in the first of two holiday tournaments this year on Dec. 5-6.
