Capping its 2007-08 season, the Miami University women's basketball team officially concluded the year with its End of Year Banquet on Saturday, March 29. The RedHawks handed out five individual awards along with celebrating the program's first trip to the NCAA Tournament.
Dr. Robert Sherman served as the master of ceremonies for the banquet, which honored its 2007-08 award winners, senior guard Amanda Jackson, senior forward Laura Markwood, junior guard Jenna Schone and junior center Stephanie Ford.
Jackson set 12 Miami records this season, including Miami's career, single-season and single-game scoring record, en route to being named Miami's Most Valuable Player, MAC Tournament MVP, earning First-Team All-MAC honors and also being named a finalist for the 2008 State Farm Coaches' All-America Team.
Markwood earned the Rebounder of the Year Award and the Defensive Player of the Year Award along with earning Third-Team All-MAC honors. Markwood set a conference and school record for the most rebounds in a season and she ranked in the Top 10 nationally in rebounding. It is the second straight year that Markwood was named Miami's Defensive Player of the Year.
Ford took home Miami's Most Improved Award after setting single-season career highs in several categories, including tying a Miami single-season record for blocks. Schone, a Second-Team All-MAC performer and a member of the MAC All-Tournament Team, earned the Hawk Award. Schone broke Miami's single-season three's record nailing 84 treys.
The RedHawks finished the season with a 23-11 record and a 12-4 Mid-American Conference record. Miami's 23 wins were three more wins than its previous two seasons combined and its 12 conference wins were also three more wins than the two previous conference campaigns. Miami's 23 wins were one short of the school record set during the 1981-82 season. The RedHawks took home their first MAC Tournament Crown and earned the program's first bid to the NCAA Tournament.
