ATLANTA - The Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA), in cooperation with State Farm, released its 52 regional finalists for the 2008 State Farm Coaches' All-America Team today and Miami senior guard Amanda Jackson was selected as a regional finalist in Region 4.
The State Farm Coaches' All-America Team selection committee will review these 52 candidates and cut the list to 40 finalists on Thursday, March 20. The 40 finalists will all be in the running for selection to the 10-member State Farm Coaches' All-America Team.
Jackson was named 2008 MAC Tournament MVP and she was a First-Team All-MAC selection this season after averaging 21.6 ppg, 4.5 rpg, 3.1 apg and 2.7 spg. Jackson has broken 12 Miami records this season, most notably Miami's all-time scoring record, single-season scoring record and single-game scoring record. Jackson was named MAC East Division Player of the Week four times this season and she was also a WBCA Player of the Month honorable mention selection in December and January.
Along with Jackson, fellow Mid-American Conference Players, Bowling Green's Kate Achter, Western Michigan's Tiera DeLaHoussaye and Ohio's Lauren Kohn were selected as regional finalists in Region 4. Also earning regional finalist honors in Region 4 were Murray State's Ashley Hayes, Texas El-Paso's Natasha Lacy and UAB's Diamond Rogers.
The State Farm Coaches' All-America Basketball Team for NCAA Division I will be announced at the State Farm Coaches' All-America Team Press Conference at the Tampa Hyatt Regency on April 5, at 9:45 a.m. (ET) in Tampa, Fla.
The RedHawks play in the program's first NCAA Tournament game on Sunday, March 23 against No. 21 Louisville in Bridgeport, Conn. Game time is scheduled for 2:30 p.m.
