CLEVELAND-After providing a spark off the bench for Miami University's women's basketball team all season, junior forward Kim Lancaster (Cincinnati, Ohio/Princeton) has been honored by the coaches of the Mid-American Conference as the winner of the league's premier Sixth Man Award.
Lancaster, who received the honor at the league's annual awards banquet Tuesday night, has made appearances off the bench in all 23 games she has dressed this season, averaging 9.8 points and 5.0 rebounds per game and ranking among Miami's top three in both categories. The junior has been even more effective in 12 league games, pouring in 10.3 ppg and snaring 5.3 rpg, while connecting on 53 percent of her efforts from the field. Lancaster has totaled in double digits 13 times this season, including eight of the last 11 games.
Already one of the most prolific scorers in Miami women's basketball history, Lancaster became just the fourth player in Miami history to reach 1,000 career points prior to her senior season on Feb. 15 at Bowling Green. Lancaster's 1,013 career points rank 13th all time at Miami, and her 52 percent career field goal percentage ranks third in the RedHawk record books.
After missing four games with a knee injury late in the season, Lancaster returned for Miami's regular-season finale versus Marshall, pouring in 5-of-7 field goals on the way to 14 points and playing an important role in the overtime win. Lancaster, the Ohio District 16 Player of the Year during her senior season at Princeton H.S., helps lead Miami (16-11; 11-5 MAC), the 2002-03 MAC East Division Champion, into a MAC Quarterfinal match-up versus Eastern Michigan University in Cleveland's Gund Arena at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday night.
