CLEVELAND -After leading Miami University's women's basketball team to a come-from-behind overtime defeat of Marshall University that clinched the RedHawks' first MAC East Division championship, junior forward Colleen Day (Independence, Ohio/Holy Name) has been honored as MAC East Co-Player of the Week along with Kent State's Katalin Kollat.
Day, who scored just four points in the first half, helped Miami overcome a 10-point halftime deficit by tallying 20 points in the final 25 minutes of the game. With the RedHawks trailing by a point with less than two minutes remaining in overtime, Day keyed the decisive run, tallying six unanswered points to put the Red and White in front for good. She connected on 7-of-10 shots from the field and a RedHawk season-high 10-of-12 free throws, while also adding five rebounds, three steals and two assists to her season-high 24 points.
The honor is the second this season for Day, who also earned MAC East Player of the Week plaudits on Feb. 17 after leading Miami to consecutive road wins over Northern Illinois and Bowling Green. She has tallied eight double-digit outings in the past 10 games and is shooting 86 percent from the free throw line in league play. The junior has garnered three MAC East Player of the Week honors in her career.
