BOWLING GREEN, Ohio -- The Bowling Green State University women's basketball team struggled offensively during a key stretch in the second half, and Miami University took advantage to beat the Falcons by a 72-59 score. The game, the Mid-American Conference regular-season finale' for both teams, was played at BGSU's Anderson Arena Wednesday night (Feb. 28).

The BG loss, coupled with Western Michigan's 86-83 win over Eastern Michigan Wednesday, means that the Falcons will be seeded ninth for the MAC Tournament, and will hit the road to face #8 WMU Saturday (March 3). BGSU is 10-17 overall and finishes league play with a 6-10 mark.

Miami moved to 16-10 overall and 10-6 in MAC play. The RedHawks will be the sixth seed for the league tourney, and will host 11th-seeded Marshall Saturday.

The Falcons, despite outrebounding Miami by a 25-18 margin and holding the RedHawks to a 1-for-11 effort from three-point land in the first half, found themselves on the short end of a 33-31 score. The equalizer was BGSU's 14 first-half turnovers, en route to a game total of 24. Miami, by contrast, turned the ball over just four times in the first half and 14 times in the game.

The Falcons trailed by just a point, 41-40, with 14:48 to go, when the visitors went on what proved to be the game-clinching run. Miami scored the next seven points of the game to begin a 17-3 run over the next eight minutes. At that point, the RedHawks led by a 58-43 score, and the Brown and Orange could not get any closer than 12 points the rest of the way.

The loss put a damper on the Falcons' "Senior Night" festivities. One of those seniors, Angie Farmer, led the home team, scoring a game-high 22 points and adding five assists. Farmer made six three-pointers on the night, just one off her own school record.

Junior Francine Miller was the only other Falcon in double digits, with 12 points, including a pair of treys. BGSU made nine three-pointers in 19 attempts (.474), while MU was 4-of-17 (.235) from behind the arc.

The RedHawks had a good amount of success inside the three-point line, however, making 13-of-25 shots (.520) in the second half. At the other end of the floor, the Falcons converted just 10 second-half shots in 26 tries (.385). For the game, MU shot .419 to BGSU's .411.

Heather Cusick led the RedHawks with 19 points, and added game-high totals of eight assists and five steals. She made three of the team's four treys in the game. Teammate Kim Lancaster had 17 points and four steals.

Kelli Stamper had nine points off the bench for the RedHawks, while Colleen Day had a game-high 12 rebounds. For the game, MU held a 40-39 edge in rebounding.

Senior Afra Smith had eight points and a team-high seven boards for the Falcons, while redshirt freshman Pam Brown added seven points.
