HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (Feb. 7) - Heather Cusick drove the length of the court and connected on a layup with only two seconds remaining as Miami University's women's basketball team won a nailbiter 65-64 over Marshall Wednesday night in Huntington.

Marshall's Marisa Williams drained both of her foul shots with eight seconds remaining to give the Thundering Herd a slim 64-63 advantage. However, Cusick took the inbounds pass, drove the length of the court and banked in the layup with two seconds left to give Miami's its sixth straight victory over Marshall.

Miami opened the game with an 11-3 run, which was sparked by two three-pointers by Beth Roederer.

After falling behind 11 points, Marshall charged back and snuck to within six points (21-15) with 6:51 left in the first half, but Miami closed the half allowing just five points in the final six minutes. The RedHawks went to the lockerroom with a 32-20 lead.

In the second half, Miami stretched its lead to 14 points (36-22) with just over 17 minutes remaining. Nonetheless, the Thundering Herd bullied their way back into the game but fell short of the upset.

Kim Lancaster led the Red and White with 12 points. Cusick finished with 11 points, including the game-winner, seven assists and four steals, while Colleen Day snagged a career-high 11 boards.

Miami (11-9, 5-5 MAC) next takes to the court on Monday, Feb. 12, as it hosts Bowling Green. Game time is set for 7 p.m. in Millett Hall.

Game Notes: Cusick extended her streak to consecutive games with at least one steal to 29 ... after hitting 2-of-2 foul shots, Hollie Nelsen has now connected on 31 of her last 35 charity attempts (88 percent) ... Miami was outrebounded 44-33 for the game, marking the 18th time in 20 games when it has been outdueled on the glass.
