CLEVELAND-Almost a week after leading one of the most memorable comebacks in Miami University women's basketball history, senior guard Heather Cusick (Kokomo, Ind./Kokomo) has been honored for the third time this season and eighth time in her career as the Mid-American Conference East Division Player of the Week the league office announced today.
Trailing Eastern Michigan University by 18 point at halftime and by as many as 21 points earlier in the first half, Cusick spearheaded the biggest Miami comeback in recent history by pouring in 21 of her game-high 26 points in the second half. On the night, Cusick drained 11-of-19 field goals, including three 3-point field goals, grabbed six rebounds, dished four assists and swiped three steals. The 26 points were Cusick's third-highest single-game output this season and marked the Miami-record 30th 20-point game of her career.
Cusick also made history in the first half when she drained a 3-point field goal from the top of the key that moved her past Jamie Stewart (1995-99) as Miami's all-time leader for career 3-point field goals made. Her 211 career treys to date rank her sixth all-time in MAC history, and she continues to close on Miami's career scoring record, needing just 41 points to surpass Monica Niemann's (1991-95) record.
Joining Cusick in the honor is former Kokomo (Ind.) High School teammate Tia Davis, who merited the MAC's West Division honor after leading Toledo to wins over Marshall and Kent State. Earlier this season, Cusick earned the honor on Nov. 25 after leading Miami to the Michigan State Spartan Chevrolet Classic title and on Dec. 30 after guiding the RedHawks to a win at Butler.
