For much of the first half, it was a back-and-forth game. However, the Huskies grabbed a 30-26 halftime advantage as Lindsay Secrest drilled a three-pointer late in the first frame.
In the first 20 minutes, Miami managed to shoot 48 percent compared to NIU's 43 percent. Beth Roederer had a team-high nine points in the half for the RedHawks, while Michelle Johnson tallied 13 points for the Huskies.
In the second half, Miami closed the gap to one point (44-43), but NIU embarked on a 19-7 run to end the game and seal the victory.
Miami finished the game shooting 39 percent from the field. The RedHawks shot just eight foul shots for the game, making five of them.
Jenny Martin led Miami with 14 points. Heather Cusick added 12 markers and five assists, while Roederer connected for 11 points.
Miami takes a week off before returning to action on Jan. 27 as it hosts Ohio University. Tipoff is set for 3:30 p.m.

Cusick finished with two steals, extending her streak of consecutive games with a steal to 25 games ... Miami was outrebounded 39-35 ... Kim Lancaster was held to a season-low four points in 18 minutes ... the 50 points by the RedHawks were also a season-worst.
