BOWLING GREEN, Ohio-Miami University's women's basketball team won back-to-back road games versus the Mid-American Conference West Division for the first time under head coach Maria Fantanarosa Saturday afternoon, improving to 12-10 and 7-4 in the MAC after a 75-65 win at Bowling Green.
Both teams struggled to find their rhythm out of the gates, and the score stood at just 7-4 in favor of Miami by the 14-minute mark. From there the tempo picked up, with the RedHawks getting their inside game going and BGSU finding its 3-point shooting touch. Sparked by Heather Cusick (Kokomo, Ind./Kokomo) and Colleen Day (Independence, Ohio/Holy Name), Miami built its largest lead of the half at 21-11 by the 11:58 mark.
One of the MAC's top 3-point shooting teams, the Falcons came soaring back with consecutive 3-point field goals from Kim Griech. BGSU trimmed Miami's lead to 32-29 with just 2:13 remaining in the half and took their first lead with a Stefanie Wenzel trey at 1:17. After a pair of Wenzel free throws with 12 seconds left, the Falcons who have not trailed at halftime in a MAC home game in two seasons, went to the locker room with a 36-32 edge.
Miami, which shot 38 percent from the field and committed 10 turnovers during the half, was led by Day's eight points. Miller led the Falcons, who hit 5-of-11 3-point attempts in the half.
Beth Roederer led Miami out of the half with back-to-back layups, tying the score at 34-34, but BGSU quickly recovered and pushed its lead to a game-high five points two possessions later. The RedHawks rallied once again and claimed a 45-44 lead at the 14:31 mark after a Kim Lancaster (Cincinnati, Ohio/Princeton) three-point play. With the three-point play, Lancaster became the 14th RedHawk to surpass 1,000 career points.

Once again, BGSU responded with a vengeance, closing to within 68-65 after four straight points by Karen Stocz with 1:45 to play. Bolstered by four straight free throws by Day, Miami was able to turn the tide again and pushed its advantage to 73-65 with 38 seconds left. A pair of Cindi Merrill (Noblesville, Ind./Noblesville) free throws put the game on ice for the Red and White.
Miami, which won back-to-back road games versus the MAC West for the first time under head coach Maria Fantanarosa, was led by 21 points from Day. Roederer, who was scoreless in the first half, finished with 14 points. Lancaster, who was helped off the court with a knee injury in the waning seconds, finished with nine points and eight rebounds on her landmark day. Miller led BGSU, which hit only one second-half trey, with 22 points.
Miami returns home Wednesday to host MAC West foe Central Michigan University at 7 p.m. The RedHawks, who play four of their final five regular-season contests at home, make their final regular-season roadtrip next Sunday when they travel to Kent State for a 4 p.m. contest that will be televised by Fox Sports Ohio.
