Former Miami basketball star Cindi Merrill is in her second season as the Director of Basketball Operations. Merrill, a 2006 RedHawk graduate, had spent the previous three seasons as an assistant strength and conditioning coach for Miami.
Merrill's responsibilities include film exchange and handling all team travel. She takes a lead role in organizing the annual "Class at the Court" game, which features over 1,500 elementary students coming to Millett Hall to have an educational experience and enjoy a game. She helps promote the event by bringing the players into the schools to interact with the students throughout the school year.
"We're excited to have Cindi in our program," said Fantanarosa. "She was a great representative of Miami women's basketball as a student-athlete, and I am thrilled that she is getting to contribute to our staff and student-athlete experience."
Merrill currently ranks sixth on the RedHawks all-time career list with 1,497 points and was named Second-Team All-MAC on two occasions. After concluding her RedHawk career, she played one year of basketball overseas in Denmark, before beginning her coaching career in 2007.
"I am very grateful for the opportunity to be on the Miami women's basketball staff," said Merrill. "I am excited to contribute to the program as it continues to move forward. The program provided me with a successful career, as both a student and an athlete, so I enjoy being able to give back.
