With schools entered from all around the country, the competition was destined to be strong and that is what it was. Sixteen of the nations top 25 women's teams and 13 of the top 25 men's teams competed in the meet.
In the men's A race, No. 3 ranked Colorado won the meet with 64 points, defeating the No. 1 ranked Stanford Cardinals, who finished third. The women's A race was captured by No. 3 ranked BYU, who finished with 83 points besting No. 1 ranked Stanford, who finished with 104 points.
Miami University's men's and women's teams competed in the national meet, and while their team totals were not great, the RedHawks did not get solid efforts out of several runners.
Sophomore Brian Godsey (West Chester, Ohio/Lakota East) was the top finisher on the mens squad. Godsey finished in the 78th position, which was the fourth best out of all Mid-American Conference runners. Freshman Jerry Claunch (West Chester, Ohio/Lakota East) and sophomore Ryan Clark (Eaton, Ohio/Eaton) finished second and third from a team standpoint for the RedHawks.
Eastern Michigan's Blake McDowell, Aaron Bartee and Steve Crane finished seventh, 35th and 77th, respectively.
Out of the more than 340 women that ran in the womens 6,000-meter race, freshman Andrea Kremer (Indianapolis, Ind./Bishop Chatard) was the top finisher for the RedHawks, finishing 203rd place. Junior Liz Lundgren (Centerville, Ohio/Centerville) was only seven spots behind Kremer, finishing 210th.
The men's and women's teams will be back in action on Saturday, October 28, when they run in the MAC Championships in Ypsilanti, Mich.
