CLEVELAND -
Miami’s cross country teams swept the Mid-American Conference’s weekly honors Tuesday, as seniors Kevin Silver and Kelsey McHugh were named the men’s and women’s MAC Cross Country Runner of the Week, respectively, the league office announced. The awards are the first MAC Runner of the Week accolade for either team this season and the first of Silver’s and McHugh’s careers.
Silver (Beachwood, Ohio) ran to an individual runner-up finish Saturday at the 8K Sean Earl Loyola (Chicago) Lakefront Invitational, leading Miami to the team title (out of 39 teams). He finished in a time of 24:58, just seven seconds behind the race’s winner. Silver’s second-place finish was out of 408 competitors and was his best finish of the season, which also tied his career-best finish. He has been Miami’s top finisher in all three races this year.
McHugh (Columbus, Ohio) ran to a ninth-place finish at the All-Ohio Championship (5K) Friday, leading Miami to a second-place team finish. She was sixth among Division I runners at the meet. McHugh clocked in at 18:55.2 as Miami’s top finisher in the 285-runner field. She was just 45 seconds behind the race’s winner.
Both Miami’s men’s and women’s cross country teams return to action Saturday, Oct. 17, when they head to Terre Haute, Ind. for the Pre-NCAA Invitational hosted by Indiana State.
