The RedHawks, who were participating in one of their most difficult meets of the season, finished with a score of 36, which was ten better than runner-up Virginia, who finished with 46. Miamis top five finishers all were in the top 13.
Beside defeating Atlantic Coast Conference power Virginia, Miami was 71 places better than the No. 7 ranked team in the country Georgetown, who finished third.
Sophomore Brian Godsey (West Chester, Ohio/Lakota East) led the charge again for Miami finishing second out of 126 participants. Godsey's time of 24:58.77 was 14 seconds behind Bobby Thiele of Virginia, who finished with a time 24:44.34. In Miami's four meets this season, Godsey has been victorious twice and runner-up the other two times.
Sophomore Ryan Clark (Eaton, Ohio/Eaton) had a solid race for the RedHawks finishing fourth with a time of 25:10.85. Freshman Jerry Claunch (West Chester, Ohio/Lakota East) and sophomore Adam Cross (Riverside, Ohio/Walter E. Stebbins) were the other two Miami runners to finish in the top ten. Claunch finished seventh with a time of 25:48.36, and Cross rounded out the top ten with a time of 25:53.95.
The mens cross country team is back in action Oct. 14 when it competes in the Iowa State Pre-NCAA Invitational in Ames, Iowa.
