OXFORD, Ohio - Coming off of their sixth-straight win at the Dayton 5K Challenge, the Miami University men's cross country team will travel to West Lafayette, Ind. on Friday to face off against Central Michigan University, Ohio State University, Northwestern, Butler and Ball State in the Great American Legends Invitational hosted by Purdue University.
Miami won Saturday's team title with 33 points, over 30 points ahead of the University of Cincinnati who took second with 68. Dayton and Xavier finished third and fourth, respectively, beating out Morehead State, IUPUI, Wright State and IPFW with 86 and 95 points.
The RedHawks were led in the first competition of the season by senior Pat Sovacool, who earned his second-consecutive individual crown at this event with a time of 15:22. In each of his four appearances at the 5k Challenge, Sovacool finished in the top 10, finishing in the top 3 for the past three years.
Junior Kevin Silver finished within a second of Sovacool at 15:23, earning third for the RedHawks. Also scoring for Miami were junior Paul Krebs with a time of 15:42 for seventh, sophomore Michael Perry at 15:47 for 10th and senior Brad Untrauer at 15:50 for a 12th place finish.
After the Great American Legends Invitational, the RedHawks will head to Maryville, Tennessee for the University of Tennessee Invitational on Friday, Sept. 19th. Competition will begin at 6:15 p.m.
Results of the Great American Legends Invitational will be posted once they are received.
