OXFORD, Ohio - David Mitchell (Woodridge, Ill./Downers Grove South) followed up last week's Dayton Flyer Invitational 5K win by claiming the 8K title on Saturday morning in the Miami Invitational. The senior's time of 24:53.48 led runner-up Jerry Claunch (West Chester, Ohio/Lakota East) by just under 40 seconds (25:32.54), the fastest time this early in the season on the Miami Western Campus course since it was rerouted in 1995.

RedHawk distancers took the top three spots, as Chris Swisher (Milan, Ind./Milan) (25:32.83)helped seal a Miami victory. The home squad scored 24 points, leading Cumberland College's (Ky.) 39 and MAC rival Marshall's 61. Finishing the scoring for MIami were Ryan Hutton (Columbus, Ind./Columbus North) in seventh overall with a time of 26:25.68 and Justin Campbell (East Liverpool, Ohio/East Liverpool) in 11th with a time of 27:04.82. Steve Schilling (St. John, Ind./Lake Central) was Miami's sixth and final finisher in 12th (27:22.53).

The Miami men's cross country squad will have plenty of time to rest its feet, as the team's next competition is Oct. 1 at Notre Dame, Ind., for the Fighting Irish's invtiational.
