NEW ORLEANS -
Miami University rising senior John Gausmann has been named to the 2010 Men’s Division I All-Academic Track and Field Team, the U.S. Track & Field/Cross Country Coaches Association announced Thursday.
Gausmann (Naperville, Ill.), who also earned Academic All-Mid-American Conference accolades this past season, is one of just 11 male MAC athletes named to the 357-man squad. The honor marks Gausmann’s first time earning a spot on the USTFCCCA All-Academic team.
Gausmann is a finance major with a cumulative grade-point average of 3.33, upping his GPA after he earned a 3.59 GPA during this past spring semester.
Gausmann was a qualifier for the NCAA East Preliminary Round in 2010 in the discus, as he finished 41st in the event May 29. He booked a spot in the first round of the NCAA Championships after a personal-best throw of 172-7/52.60m at the Billy Hayes Invitational on May 7, as he took first place. The throw ranks him seventh all-time at Miami in the discus. Gausmann finished seventh in the discus at the 2010 Outdoor MAC Championships with a toss of 160-8/48.98m.
To qualify for the USTFCCCA All-Academic Track and Field Team, a student-athlete must have compiled a cumulative grade-point average of 3.25 or better and have met either the NCAA Division I Indoor automatic or provisional qualifying standard or participated in the NCAA Division I Outdoor Championships (including preliminary rounds) in their respective event.
Those institutions given All-Academic Team status will be named on August 2 (men) and August 3 (women).
