NEW ORLEANS -
The Miami University men's track and field team has been named a 2009 Division I All-Academic Team by the U.S. Track and Field/Cross Country Coaches Association. The RedHawks are one of just 67 programs in the country to be recognized and one of just two from the Mid-American Conference.
Miami compiled a cumulative team grade-point average of 3.040, which was the 56th-best team GPA among NCAA Division I men's track and field teams. Central Michigan was the only other MAC squad named an All-Academic Team, while DePaul had the top team GPA in the country with a 3.419.
To qualify for the honor, a team must carry a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or better.
Last week, graduated seniors Pat Sovacool and Michael Veatch were named to the USTFCCCA All-Academic Team for their individual performance both in the classroom and on the track. Miami's men's cross country team was also named an All-Academic Team this past season.
