INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. -- Former Miami trackster Dan Huling is on his way to the IAAF World Championships in Athletics in August after finishing second in the steeplechase at the USA Track and Field National Championship last weekend. The 2006 graduate posted a time of 8:32.86, less than three seconds behind Joshua McAdams (New Balance).

Huling will begin his world championship quest Sunday, August 16 at 11 a.m. local time in Berlin, Germany. The final will be conducted at 7:50 p.m. on Tuesday, August 18.

At the USATF event in Euguene, Ore., Huling ran the fastest time of the first round at 8:34.13.

While at Miami, Huling earned All-America honors in both cross country and track and field as a senior (2005-06). He won Mid-American Conference championships in the 5000 as a junior and in the 5000 and 10000 as a senior. He also won the MAC Cross Country title in 2005.

"Personally, I think there is no greater honor than being able to represent your country at the World Championships," Head Coach Warren Mandrell said. "It is nice to see Dan persevere after injuries hurt his 2007 and 2008 seasons, including an Olympic qualifying bid. It think it speaks for our program that he left here still loving the sport and found places to grow and develop.
