OXFORD, Ohio - Miami University junior Pat Sovacool has been named to the ESPN the Magazine Academic All-District 4 first team for his performance on the trails, the track, and in the classroom.
Sovacool, who will compete in next week's NCAA Track and Field Championships at Drake University in the 5,000 meters, finished fifth at last Friday's NCAA Mideast Regional Championships in Fayetteville, Ark.
In May, he swept the 1,500 and 5,000 meters at the MAC Championships after finishing fifth in the 5,000 meters at the 114th Penn Relays in April, finishing with a personal-best time of 13:56.77.
In cross country, the Lakewood, Ohio product qualified for the NCAA Championships by finishing 12th at the NCAA Great Lakes Regional Championships. He finished fourth at the MAC Cross Country Championships with a time of 25:05.0. Sovacool started the 2007 cross country season with three-straight wins, earning a spot in Sports Illustrated's Faces in the Crowd on October 22.
In the classroom, Sovacool is a zoology major and carries a 3.60 grade point average. He has been named to the Academic All-MAC team three times.
With the first-team nod, Sovacool is eligible for the CoSIDA Academic All-American team which will be announced on June 23.
A graduate of St. Ignatius High School, Sovacool will run in the prelims of the 5,000 meter national championship on Wednesday, June 11 at 8:50 p.m. The finals will take place on Friday, June 13 at 9:15 p.m. in Des Moines, Iowa.
