CLEVELAND, Ohio - Miami's Pat Sovacool (track & field) was named the MAC Male Scholar Athlete of the Week on May 8, 2008.

Sovacool (Jr., 3.58, zoology, Lakewood, Ohio, St. Ignatius) finished second in the 1,500 meters at the Jesse Owens Track Classic on Saturday in Columbus, Ohio. With a time of 3:45.96, the fastest time in the MAC this season, Sovacool qualifies for the NCAA Regionals. Sovacool finished behind only the Big Ten 1,500 meter champion in the event and now owns the MAC's fastest times in both the 1,500 and 5,000 meters, while ranking fourth in the 800 meters.

He and the rest of the RedHawks will travel to the MAC Championships at Bowling Green on Thursday, Friday and Saturday.

The MAC Scholar Athlete of the Week honor is presented to a MAC male and female student-athlete who has a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better and performs well during that week's competition. The winners are selected by a group of the conference's faculty athletic representatives.
