OXFORD, Ohio - The Miami University men's track and field team will see action this weekend at two different venues. Michael Veatch and Pat Sovacool will travel to Philadelphia to take part in the Penn Relays on Thursday, while the rest of the RedHawks will compete at the Stan Lyons Invitational at Butler University on Saturday.

Veatch, a senior from Middletown, Ohio, will look to set a personal record in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, in which he has already posted an NCAA Regional qualifying time of 9:05.26. The steeplechase is scheduled to be run at 7:20 p.m. on Thursday.

Sovacool, a junior from Lakewood, Ohio, will be working to set an NCAA Regional qualifying mark in the 5,000 meters. His most impressive finish of the season, to date, is a 3:48.20 time in the 1,500 meters at the All-Ohio Championships, missing the NCAA qualifying mark by less than half a second. The 5,000 meters is set to go off at 9:10 p.m. on Thursday.

Another RedHawk to watch this weekend is sophomore high jumper Travis Brumm. A product of Fort Wayne, Ind., Brumm cleared 6-10 ¾ at last weekend's All-Ohio Championship in Cincinnati, qualifying for the NCAA Regionals. In the MAC, only one jumper has cleared a higher mark this season.

As the season progresses, Kevin Dwyer's season-best decathlon score of 7240 points, set last weekend in Cincinnati, could remain in the top-20 nationally until season's end, when he will compete at the NCAA Championships in Des Moines, Iowa. A native of Arlington Heights, Ill., Dwyer's top score is the best point total in the MAC this season, by more than 800 points.

Also in the decathlon, freshman Michael McCarty, from Hudson, Ohio, set a high score of 6236 which is the highest decathlon total for a freshman in Warren Mandrell's 14 seasons as the Miami men's track and field head coach.

Following this weekend's action, the RedHawks will travel to the Jesse Owens Track Classic at Ohio State University on May 2 and 3.
