After posting solid individual performances at three separate meets last weekend, the Miami University men's track and field team travels to the Southern Ohio Cup Saturday, April 22 in Cincinnati. Led by senior Dan Huling, who has posted regional-qualifying performances in three distance events, the RedHawks square off with the host Cincinnati Bearcats and Mid-American Conference rival Ohio Bobcats, with the first events slated for 11 a.m. at Gettler Stadium.

THE TRIFECTA: With his first-place finish in the 5,000 meters at the Mount San Antonio College Relays, senior Dan Huling posted his third regional-qualifying performance of the season. Huling clocked in at 13:46.53, good for the third-fastest time in the 5,000 meters in Miami history. Huling also knocked nearly 25 seconds off his previous personal-best mark of 14:11.25, set in 2003 at the Penn Relays. Huling has previously turned in regional-qualifying performances in the mile run at the Miami Invitational (4:04.51) and the 3,000-meter steeplechase at the Wake Forest Invitational (8:41.53), and his time at Wake Forest was a school-record time. A regional qualifier in the steeplechase in each of the past two seasons, Huling was a national qualifier in the steeplechase as a junior.

CREEKMUR HITS PERSONAL BEST: Competing in his second decathlon of the season at the SeaRay Relays, senior Ceith Creekmur set a new personal best with his fourth-place score of 6,899. On the first day of competition, Creekmur notched a pair of runner-up finishes in the two jumps, turning in a second-place height in the high jump (6-6 1/4) and a second-place distance in the long jump (23-1 1/4). Creekmur followed with three top-five finishes on the second day, with his top showing coming with a second-place and career-best toss in the discus (124-1). Creekmur missed a provisional-qualifying score by 101 points, and his decathlon score ranks as the seventh best in Miami history. Creekmur also set season-best marks in eight of the ten events contested.

BLINK AND YOU'LL MISS IT: As Miami's top sprinter, senior Michael Watts turned in a pair of career-best performances at the Indy Relays last weekend. Watts posted his first individual win of the season with a first-place time of 21.76 in the 200 meters, and he also notched a season-best performance in the 100 meters with his fourth-place time of 10.97. Watts' performance at the Indy Relays improved his previous personal-best marks of 10.80 in the 100 meters and 21.80 in the 200 meters, both set at the 2005 MAC Outdoor Track and Field Championships.

NATIONAL PROWESS: Ranking among the top distance runners in the country, senior Dan Huling currently owns the second-fastest time in the nation in the 3,000-meter steeplechase according to trackshark.com. Huling's time of 8:41.53, set at the Wake Forest Invitational (March 24) ranks behind only Josh McAdams of Brigham Young (8:38.47). Huling also ranks among the top 20 in both the 5,000 meters and 1,500 meters. Huling stands sixth in the nation with his time of 13:46.53 in the 5,000 meters (Mount SAC Relays; April 13) and 20th in the 1,500 meters with his time of 3:46.11 (Miami Invitational; April 8). His 1,500-meter time was converted from his regional-qualifying mile run performance at the Miami Invitational (4:04.51).

LAST TIME OUT - SEARAY RELAYS (APRIL 12-13): Posting a career-best score of 6,899 points, Miami University senior Ceith Creekmur finished fourth in the decathlon at the SeaRay Relays. Creekmur notched season-best performances in 8-of-10 events and missed a provisional-qualifying score by only 101 points.

LAST TIME OUT - MOUNT SAC RELAYS (APRIL 13): Senior Dan Huling finished first in the 5,000 meters and two other runners placed among the top 25 finishers in their respective events as three Miami athletes competed at the Mount San Antonio College Relays. With the third-fastest time in Miami history, Huling clocked in at 13:46.53, winning the 5,000-meter race by more than four seconds. Senior Chris Swisher joined Huling as a top-25 finisher in the 5,000 meters, turning in a 23rd-place time of 14:23.63. Freshman Pat Sovacool rounded out the trio of distance runners competing in the Mount SAC Relays, as he clocked in with an 18th-place time of 3:54.52 in the 1,500 meters.

LAST TIME OUT - INDY RELAYS (APRIL 15): With wins in four individual events at the Indy Relays, Miami wrapped up competition at Michael A. Carroll Track and Field Stadium. Seniors Michael Watts (200 meters), Eric Bowman (110-meter hurdles) and Kyle Kraus (high jump), junior Tom Herrmann (high jump) and sophomore Bryan Ferres (javelin) all notched first-place performances, and Miami posted an additional 10 top-five finishes at the meet.

HULING NAMED TRACK ATHLETE OF THE WEEK: Following a regional-qualifying performance in the mile run at the Miami Invitational (April 8), senior Dan Huling was named the Mid-American Conference's Track Athlete of the Week. As the RedHawks' top distance runner, Huling turned in a first-place time of 4:04.51 in the mile run for his third individual win in as many races. The MAC Track Athlete of the Week Award was the second of the season for Huling, as he was previously honored March 28 after resetting his own school record in the 3,000-meter steeplechase.

IT'S ALL ABOUT THE POINTS: The RedHawks return 12 athletes who scored points at last season's MAC Championship, including 5,000 meter MAC Champion Dan Huling. Miami lost only two point scorers from last season's fourth-place team (Erik Reynolds and Jake Dunkleberger), and welcomes back silver medal winners Chris Swisher (5,000 meters) and Ceith Creekmur (decathlon), along with bronze medalists Rob Prechtl (javelin), Chris Skaggs (pole vault), Bobby Houston (400-meter hurdles) and Swisher (1,500 meters).
