CLEVELAND - Following a regional-qualifying performance in the mile run at the Miami Invitational, Miami University senior Dan Huling (Geneva, Ill./ Geneva) has been named the Mid-American Conference's Track Athlete of the Week.

As the RedHawks' top distance runner, Huling clocked in with his second regional-qualifying performance of the season at the Miami Invitational (April 8), turning in a first-place time of 4:04.51 in the mile run. Huling's time met the regional standard of 4:06.00, and his individual win was his third in as many races. Huling's performance also helped the RedHawks capture the team title at the 12-team Miami Invitational.

Huling's other regional-qualifying performance this season came in the 3,000-meter steeplechase at the Wake Forest Invitational (March 24) when he clocked in with a school-record time of 8:41.53. His 3,000-meter steeplechase time currently ranks second in the nation behind Josh McAdams of Brigham Young (8:38.47) and first in the MidEast Region, four seconds ahead of Augustus Maiyo of Alabama (8:45.54).

The MAC Track Athlete of the Week Award is the second of the season for Huling, as he was previously honored March 28 after resetting his own school record in the 3,000-meter steeplechase. It is the third conference athlete of the week honor of his career.

Huling is one of three Miami distance runners heading to the Mount San Antonio College Relays this weekend in Walnut, Calif. Huling will be competing in the 5,000 meters Thursday, April 13.
