COLUMBIA, Mo. - Competing in his second consecutive regional meet, Miami University sophomore Pat Sovacool placed 22nd in the preliminary heat of the 1,500 meters Friday at the 2007 NCAA MidEast Regional Track and Field Championships.

A regional qualifier in each of his first two seasons at Miami, Sovacool turned in a 22nd-place time of 3:58.06 Friday at Audrey J. Walton Stadium. Sovacool missed out on qualifying for Saturday's finals, as the top four times in each heat plus the next four top times advanced.

The 22nd-place regional finish wrapped up a successful outdoor track season for Sovacool. As one of Miami's most talented distance runners, Sovacool was the highest-placing Miami track athlete at the Mid-American Conference Championships, as he finished third in the 1,500 meters. Sovacool also won a pair of individual events during the regular season, as he placed first in the 5,000 meters at the All-Ohio Championships and won the 1,500 meters at the Miami Invitational. Another notable individual performance from Sovacool was his career-best mile time (3:45.34) as the top collegiate finisher at the Jesse Owens Invitational.

Two Miamians are slated to compete tomorrow in the MidEast Regional. Senior Tom Herrmann competes in the high jump finals at noon, while junior Michael Veatch runs in the steeplechase finals at 6:15 p.m
