BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - The Miami University men's track and field team sits in fourth place with 18 team points after day one at the Mid-American Conference Championships on Thursday on the campus of Bowling Green State University.
Dan Beach set a personal best in the hammer throw, once again clearing the NCAA Regional qualifying mark with a throw of 194-9 and finishing third.. It is the fourth time this season that Beach has cleared the qualifying mark and his performance also moves him up Miami's all-time performance list.
Jake Kuhner cleared the NCAA Regional qualifying height in the pole vault, clearing 16-6 ¾ in less than ideal conditions. Matt Rudin took seventh in the event, clearing 15-1.
In the decathlon, Kevin Dwyer sits in second place through five events with 3420 points while Michael McCarty is in third with 3379 points and Mitch Reynolds is in seventh at 3073.
Dwyer took second, while McCarty was third in the 100-meter dash at 11.59 and 11.61, respectively. Dwyer won the long jump with a leap of 21-3 ½. Reynolds was second in the shot put at 44-1 ¼, while Dwyer was fourth at 42-5 ¼. Dwyer and McCarty finished fourth and fifth in the high jump at 6-2 ¼ and 6-1 ¼, respectively. McCarty took second in the 400 meters, finishing in 50.79.
Paul Krebs took sixth place in the 10,000 meters with a time of 31:00.39.
Friday's event begin at 9 a.m. at the Whittaker Track in Bowling Green.
