OXFORD, Ohio - Sophomore Pat Sovacool medaled in the 1,500 meters with a third-place finish and the Miami University men's track and field team had five additional RedHawks post top-eight finishes as it wrapped up the final day of competition at the 2007 Mid-American Conference Track and Field Championships. Tallying 24 points in six different events, Miami finished with a seventh-place point total of 43.

On Saturday at the George L. Rider Track Complex, Sovacool was the highest placing Miamian on day three of the conference meet, as he clocked in with a third-place time in the 1,500 meters (3:55.50). Joining Sovacool as a top-eight finisher in the event was sophomore Sam Cosgrove with a seventh-place time (3:57.36).

Continuing to accumulate points in the distance events, Miami had a pair of athletes score in the 5,000 meters, as junior Michael Veatch and freshman Adam Martin placed seventh (14:56.99) and eighth (15:06.36), respectively. One day after placing third in the steeplechase with the fifth-fastest time in program history, Veatch adding his second scoring finish of the conference meet in the 5,000 meters.

Other individual point scorers for Miami were junior Ben Robinson in the 800 meters and senior Tom Herrmann in the high jump. Robinson placed seventh with a career-best time of 1:53.84, giving him his first career MAC scoring finish, while Herrmann scored in the high jump for a fourth straight season with a clearance of 6-6 3/4.

Miami also added a pair of top-six finishes in the relays, placing fourth in the 4x400 meter relay (3:16.44) and sixth in the 4x100 meter relay (42.31).

 

 

Eastern Michigan took home the men's team title with 182 points, narrowly edging out runner-up Akron (181 points) and third-place Kent State (178).
