OXFORD, Ohio - Placing a pair of athletes in the top eight of the 3,000-meter steeplechase and sending six athletes to Saturday's finals, the Miami University men's track and field team completed the second day of competition at the 2007 Mid-American Conference Track and Field Championships. Along with the RedHawks amassing seven team points, junior Michael Veatch lowered his regional-qualifying time in the steeplechase, giving Miami a sixth-place total of 19 points through eight scored events.

Veatch and sophomore Ryan Dezso were the two Miami point scorers Friday at the George L. Rider Track Complex, as they placed third and eighth, respectively, in the steeplechase. Veatch earned six team points with his career-best clocking of 8:58.45, while Dezso scored for the first time at the conference meet with a time of 9:40.45. Veatch lowered his regional-qualifying time from 9:06.58 and was one of four athletes to post regional-qualifying times in the event.

Miami also qualified six athletes for the finals in their respective events, including a pair of middle distance runners. Sophomores Pat Sovacool (3:59.65) and Sam Cosgrove (4:01.29) each advanced to the finals with their performances in the 1,500 meters, while a pair of Miamians advanced in the long sprints. Junior Steffan Flessa moved on the finals with his clocking in the 400 meters (48.93), and junior Ben Robinson also advanced with his time in the 800 meters (1:53.21). Miami's final two qualifiers were sophomore Eric Horvath (55.41) and senior Brad Stoner (55.51), both in the 400-meter hurdles.

Through day two, Kent State (77 points), Akron (60) and Eastern Michigan (58) round out the top three schools in the team standings.
