CINCINNATI, Ohio - Sophomore Pat Sovacool and junior Bryan Ferres turned in first-place finishes in the 5,000 meters and javelin, respectively, and the Miami University men's track and field team notched 11 top-10 finishes as it concluded the second day of competition Saturday at the All-Ohio Championships. Miami finished the meet seventh in a field of 11 teams, posting a point total of 58.50.

Sovacool was the lone Miamian with a top track finish, as he clocked in with a first-place time of 14:42.02 in the 5,000 meters. Joining him as an event winner was Ferres in the field events, as he registered a first-place distance of 180-11 in the javelin.

Miami turned in a total of seven top-10 finishes in the track events, including Sovacool's top finish in the 5,000 meters. The middle distance events saw a pair of Miamians register top-10 performances, with junior Stefan Flessa placing ninth in the 400 meters (48.86) and sophomore Sam Cosgrove finishing seventh in the 800 meters (1:53.22). Sophomore Kevin Silver also added a ninth-place time of 3:56.16 in the 1,500 meters.

Freshman Chris Maloney notched Miami's lone top-10 hurdle finish, as he clocked in with a seventh-place time in the 110-meter hurdles (15.52). The RedHawks also placed in the top eight in both relay events, finishing fifth in the 4x400 (3:20.35) and eighth in the 4x100 (42.42).

The RedHawks turned in a total of four top-10 finishes in the field events, including Ferres' first-place toss in the javelin. Senior Tom Herrmann and freshman Travis Brumm posted top-six clearances in the high jump, as they finished fifth and sixth with identical heights of 6-6 3/4. Miami's final top-10 performance of the meet came from sophomore Mitchell Reynolds in the long jump, as he sailed to a seventh-place distance of 21-10.

 

 

Having completed its April slate of meets, Miami has one final tune up, the Bill Hayes Invitational hosted by Indiana University (May 4), before hosting the Mid-American Conference Championships May 9-12 in Oxford.
