Creekmur moved up from sixth to fourth over the final five events and missed a provisional-qualifying score by only 101 points.

At the Tom Black Track at LaPorte Stadium, Creekmur tallied three top-five finishes, with his top showing coming in the discus. Creekmur turned in a second-place distance of 124-1 in the discus, good for a career-best toss. Creekmur's other top-five finishes came with his fifth-place height in the pole vault (13-11 1/4) and his fifth-place toss in the javelin (88-2).

Creekmur also notched a seventh-place showing in the 110-meter hurdles (15.27) and an eighth-place time in the 1,500 meters. With his score, Creekmur improved his personal-best score by six points and remained seventh on the all-time list in the decathlon.
