KNOXVILLE, Tenn. - Posting a career-best score of 6,899 points, Miami University senior Ceith Creekmur (Naperville, Ill.) finished fourth in the decathlon at the SeaRay Relays Thursday. Creekmur moved up from sixth to fourth over the final five events and missed a provisional-qualifying score by only 101 points.
At the Tom Black Track at LaPorte Stadium, Creekmur tallied three top-five finishes, with his top showing coming in the discus. Creekmur turned in a second-place distance of 124-1 in the discus, good for a career-best toss. Creekmur's other top-five finishes came with his fifth-place height in the pole vault (13-11 1/4) and his fifth-place toss in the javelin (88-2).
Creekmur also notched a seventh-place showing in the 110-meter hurdles (15.27) and an eighth-place time in the 1,500 meters. With his score, Creekmur improved his personal-best score by six points and remained seventh on the all-time list in the decathlon.
Chris Helwick (7,707 points) won the decathlon, while Chris Weinberg (7,341) and Chris Caine (7,127) rounded out the top three finishers. In the 12-athlete field, Helwick was the only athlete with a NCAA automatic-qualifying score. Weinberg's and Caine's scores both were provisional marks.
