OXFORD, Ohio -- Senior Pat Sovacool set a meet record in capturing the 1500-meter run, while two other RedHawks won events Saturday at the first home event of the season, the Miami Invitational. Sam Cosgrove had the fastest time in the 800 meters, while Nathan Hoch captured the discus competition.
Sovacool posted a time of 3:44.59, a full second better than Mark Tucker of Butler ran the race in 2002. The time was also good enough to earn Sovacool a ticket to the NCAA Mideast Regional in the event.
Cosgrove came from last in his heat with just 200 meters left to win the 800 meter run in a time of 1:53.20, while also helping the 4x400 relay team to third place. Hoch, a freshman, won the discus with a throw of 47.35 meters (155-feet, 4-inches), beating out teammate John Gausmann (45.41/149-00).

His time is the second fastest in the nation this year. Michael Veatch of Miami was second in 8:56.85, a time that was faster than the previous meet record and ranks 13th in the country this season.
Chris Maloney was second in the 110 Hurdles in 14.92 seconds, while Justin Eddie placed third in the 200 in 22.18. Matt Kessler also earned third in the 400-meter hurdles (56.03)
