OXFORD, Ohio - Miami University's Dan Beach set a personal best on Friday afternoon, winning the hammer throw at the Miami Team Challenge at the George L. Rider Track in Oxford, Ohio.

Beach's mark of 194-1 on his third attempt gave him his first win of the 2008 season. His throw tops his previous best of 192-1, set last week at the Nikoloff Invitational in Cincinnati.

Fellow RedHawk John Gausmann took 19th in the event, thowing 119-8 ½. The remaining events of the Miami Team Challenge begin tomorrow at 11 a.m. at the Rider Track Complex.
