BEXLEY, Ohio - For the second straight weekend, the Miami University men’s track and field team came away with the team title, as the RedHawks won the Rick Meindl Last Call meet, hosted by Capital University at the Capital Center Fieldhouse Saturday, by winning five individual events in their final indoor meet of 2010, despite only about half the team competing. Last weekend, Miami won the All-Ohio Championships in Bowling Green, Ohio.

The RedHawks narrowly edged out Ohio Northern to take first place as a team, as Miami finished with 122.5 points while Ohio Northern compiled just 122 points at the 13-team meet. Kentucky State finished third while host Capital placed fourth.

Junior David Serrano (Pickerington, Ohio) won the high jump for the second straight meet with a Fieldhouse-record leap of 6-9 (2.06m) while freshman Cory Snep (North Manchester, Ind.) tied for fourth. Freshman John Cantwell (Holland, Pa.) was also victorious, taking first in the triple jump with a leap of 44-3.25 (13.49m).

On the track, junior Dan Hull (Warren, Ohio) won the 500m run in 1:07.34 while freshman Jack Spilman (Chagrin Falls, Ohio) took first in the 800m run in 1:57.76, his second straight 800m title. Fellow freshman Jarrod Eick (Hartville, Ohio) gave Miami a third victory on the track, crossing in first in the 1000m run in 2:31.50, which is another Capital Center Fieldhouse record.

In the pole vault, redshirt sophomore Matt Rudin (Middleburgh Heights, Ohio) and freshman Sam Wildeman (Naperville, Ill.) placed second and third, respectively, with vaults of 14-5.5 (4.41m) and 13-11.75 (4.26m), while sophomore Nathan Hoch (Logan, Ohio) took second in the shot put with a heave of 47-1.5 (14.36m). Junior Josh Rees (Marysville, Ohio) placed third in the long jump with a leap of 22-3 (6.78m) while fellow junior John Gausmann (Naperville, Ill.) finished third in the weight throw (51-9/15.77m).

The RedHawks also took second in both the 4x200m relay in 1:35.22 and the 4x400m relay in 3:34.47, with freshman Reggie Mitchell (Cincinnati, Ohio) placing second in the 60-meter hurdles in 8.62, as well.

Miami has now completed its indoor season, competing in all three meets allowed by NCAA rules in preparation for outdoor competition. The RedHawks begin their 2010 outdoor season March 27 at the Vanderbilt Invitational.
