BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -
Miami University's men's track & field team posted six top-10 finishes over three distance events in a positive showing at the Indiana Invitational Friday and Saturday in Bloomington. The event was the RedHawks' second of three indoor meets and was unscored.
The Red and White's top event of the day was the distance medley, where RedHawk relays took first and fourth places. The top-finishing contingent completed the distance in 10:11.56.
Miami also put four runners among the top-10 finishers in the 3000-meter run. Senior Jerry Claunch (West Chester, Ohio/Lakota East) led the way, taking third in 8:38.82, just ahead of senior Ryan Clark (Eaton, Ohio/Eaton) in fourth. Freshmen Brad Graham (Braidwood, Ill./Reed-Custer) and Ryan Hutton (Columbus, Ohio/North) took eighth and ninth, respectively, for Miami. Sophomore Dan Huling (Geneva, Ill./Geneva Community) took sixth in the mile invitational, recording a time of 4:08.94.
Senior Nick Somerville (Indianapolis, Ind./Lawrence Central) had a successful weekend, taking second in the long jump after topping the preliminaries. He cleared 23-0 in the prelims, before extending his distance to 23-4 for the finals. Somerville also posted an eighth-place finish in the triple jump prelims. Freshman Jake Kuhner (Pickerington, Ohio/Pickerington) also posted a second-place finish, leaping 15-1 in the pole vault. Kuhner finished just ahead of junior Kelly Tenbrink (Cincinnati, Ohio/LaSalle) in third.
In the high jump, senior Erik Reynolds (West Chester, Ohio/Lakota East) lead a three-RedHawk contingent in top-10 finishes in the high jump. Reynolds tied for third with a height of 6-9, while freshman Tom Hermann (Upper Arlington, Ohio/Upper Arlington) tied for fifth and sophomore Kyle Kraus (Kingsville, Ohio/Kingsville) tied for eighth. Also finishing in the top 10 was senior Will Stanley (Cleveland, Ohio/Trinity). Stanley placed ninth in the shot put, after qualifying eighth in the prelims.
The RedHawks have just one more indoor meet, the Ohio State Invitational (Saturday, Feb. 21) before taking March off to prepare for the outdoor season.
