MIAMI'S LAST TIME OUT: Wright State, Xavier and IUPUI visited Oxford over the weekend, and only the Raiders returned home with a win. On Friday, Wright State won the first five events before Zach Niehaus won the three-meter dive and Scott Robson won the 200 Fly by .29 seconds. Miami won one other swimming event when Andrew O'Neill took the 200 Back, and Peter Donohue won the three-meter dive. Though Miami could have won the meet with a top-three sweep in the last 400 Free Relay, the RedHawks finished second and third in the event and lost the meet, 128-109. Saturday's meet against Xavier and IUPUI was a different story, as Miami won 10 of the 16 events and defeated Xavier, 166-117, and IUPUI, 189-106. While winning one diving event each, Peter Donohue and Eric Teske qualified for the NCAA zone diving meet in the spring. A freshman was Miami's only two-time event winner on Saturday, as rookie Theo Kuczek won both the 50 Free and 100 Breast for his first event wins of the year.
STORYLINES:
1. The number of individual event winners for Miami grew to 13 after Saturday's meet as this season's team-effort theme remains the story. In six meets, Miami has had a swimmer win two individual events in the same meet only four times. Scott Robson has done it twice, while Brian O'Rourke and now Theo Kuczek have won two events in the same meet once.
2. The RedHawks have this weekend off and have only two meets until mid-January. Three athletes travel to the U.S. Open in two weeks while the rest of the team hosts the Miami Invitational. After the winter break training trip to Florida and the Ed Kennedy Relays in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., on Dec. 31, Miami's next dual meet is Jan. 14 at Cincinnati with Kenyon.
COACH'S CORNER:
Pete Lindsay enters his 20th season at Miami having led Miami to 17 top-three finishes at the MAC Championships in his 19 previous seasons. In 1997 and 1999, Lindsay guided Miami to its last two conference titles, and the RedHawks have been the only team to knock Eastern Michigan off the top of the MAC podium since 1980. Last season, Lindsay helped Miami to a 4-1 record in the MAC and boasted a three-time gold medalist in Andrew Keefe, who won the 50, 100 and 200 Free races at the 2004 MAC meet. Lindsay has coached 74 Mid-American Conference individual champions, seven MAC Men's Swimmers of the Year and two of Miami's six MAC Championship teams. He has garnered four MAC Coach of the Year awards, earning the honor in 1991, 1994, 1996 and 1999. Lindsay, who teaches in the physical education department, is the only Miami head coach that is a full-time instructor at the university.
