OXFORD, Ohio - Mid-American Conference swimming and diving coaches have predicted the Miami men's squad to finish second at the 2005 MAC Championships. The league meet is slated for March 3-5 at Miami's home pool, the Nixon Aquatic Center.

The RedHawks have finished second four times in the last five years, including last season. Eastern Michigan, picked to finish first, has won 24 MAC titles since 1978, including the last five. Miami was the last team to dethrone the Eagles, in 1999. Counting the team's 1997 championship, Miami has been the only school to beat Eastern Michigan since 1980.

At last year's MAC meet, held at Eastern Michigan's home pool, Miami claimed four individual golds, with three coming from Andrew Keefe in the 50-, 100- and 200-yard freestyle events. The only returning RedHawk to win MAC gold last season is Peter Donohue (Cincinnati, Ohio/Turpin), the defending one-meter diving champ. In addition to Donohue, Miami returns three first-team all-MAC performers from last year, in Jason Krasula (Perrysburg, Ohio/Perrysburg), Paul Ricard (Bowling Green, Ohio/Bowling Green HS) and Scott Robson (Glen Ellyn, Illinois/Glenbard South).

Behind Eastern Michigan and Miami in the poll are Ball State, Ohio and Buffalo in the five-team MAC for men's swimming.

Miami opens the season with home dual meets against Ohio State on Friday, Nov. 5 at 4 p.m. and Buffalo on Saturday, Nov. 6 at 3:30 p.m.
